Friends-International

Watch the video above to learn more about one mother’s story of how she turned her family’s life around, brought to us from the Phnom Penh Mith Samlanh team.

Saving lives and building futures is at the core of Friends-International’s work. The organization started operating in Phnom Penh in 1994. Since then, we have been creating exciting and innovative projects all over the world for marginalized children, youth and their families offering the opportunity for them to build a better future with our support.

The first Home Based Production (HBP) program was created in 2005 in order to find an alternative and sustainable way to provide economic support to marginalized families. Children from poor and marginalized families in Cambodia often have to drop out of school in order to earn money to help support themselves and their families. This not only puts children at risk in dangerous labor and working environments, but also greatly limits their future options as they will grow up lacking the necessary education and skills to secure decent and productive employment.

By helping families achieve sustainable financial security, the project reduces child labor and increases reintegration of marginalized children and youth into school and training.
